My name is Jonathan Ye and I am currently a rising junior. I first exposed to marine science through the Science Olympiad event Water Quality. This event focused on marine ecosystems, and more specifically coral reefs. As I began to study this fascinating field of science I began to really develop a passion for it and became focused on the preservation of coral reefs. The significance of coral reefs in marine ecosystems captured my attention and I was alarmed by the current situation facing the various reef systems around the world, especially the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, which just recently experienced another bleaching. Since then, I have been actively developing and building my knowledge on coral reefs and reef ecosystems. In addition to this, I am currently researching potential solutions to heat induced coral bleachings that are the leading cause of reef deaths.
